You know it’s Mid-Autumn season when you see paper lanterns and mooncakes everywhere. But in the case of Cheras LeisureMall, you will be seeing rabbits everywhere! Not a regular rabbit, but the Jade Rabbit, an important folklore character of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Jade Rabbit lives on the moon, and is said to always be pounding in a mortar. This legend comes from markings on the moon that look like a rabbit standing over a mortar, similar to the “Man on the Moon” in the West. The moon has always been a muse for artists, writers, and even scientists. The romantic mythology of Moon Rabbit has also catalysed people’s imaginations and creativity. In Japanese animation, the moon rabbit symbol is often reimagined to create modern cultural symbols.
The wonderful celebration of the Mid-Autumn season at Cheras LeisureMall returns to create fond memories for all shoppers from now until September 15, 2019. Themed “A Mid-Autumn Garden of Paradise”, the overall mall décor is inspired by the Jade Rabbit and includes the display of rabbit lanterns to transform Cheras LeisureMall into a bunny haven! The transformation is made possible by the hundreds of lanterns created by participants of the lantern-making competitions, “Creative Lantern Art Contest” and “Jade Rabbit Creative Lantern-making Contest”. These are annual events organised by Cheras LeisureMall which have received enthusiastic response from the public throughout the years, and this time round, a total of RM96,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs!
