From the moment our family stepped into the stunning lobby designed by Bill Bensley at The Slate Phuket, we felt transported to a chic, industrial-style wonderland.
Featuring 185 rooms. the 25-acre resort pays tribute to Phuket’s tin mining legacy with concrete floors, black steel furnishings and industrial-style lighting suspended from wooden-beam roof.
Situated on the pristine coral sands of Nai Yang Beach on Phuket’s laid-back northern shore, the warm smiles from the staff, along with a refreshing ginger drink and cool towel, were just what we needed to ease into our tropical getaway. The lovely corsages of lily and jasmine added a special touch to our arrival, making us feel truly welcomed.
Located just a quick 10-minute drive from the airport, The Slate is an ideal spot for families. Nestled slightly away from the bustling Nai Yang Beach, this five-star resort offers a serene environment that's perfect for families looking for a quiet getaway.
With three beautiful swimming pools surrounded by lush greenery, we instantly felt relaxed. The dining options are plentiful, with three restaurants, a sports bar, a swim-up pool bar, and poolside dining to keep both kids and adults happy!
We stayed in the D-BUK Family Suite, a spacious 76 sqm room that perfectly suited our needs. The chic industrial decor flows throughout the property, creating a stylish atmosphere. The room's layout included a bed and a daybed that easily converted for our three-year-old, complete with privacy curtains for cozy naps.
For our six-month-old twins, comfortable cots were provided, ensuring everyone had a good night’s sleep. Being on the ground floor made it easy to navigate the resort with a stroller, and our terrace was a lovely spot for some downtime while the kids napped.
Our three-year-old, Sofie, had an absolute blast at The Slate's Tin Box Kids Club. With organized activities throughout the day, she was always engaged, happy and busy. The Lagoon Pool filled with laughter as kids took turns in inflatable balls, trying to run on water – it was such a joy to watch and just one of the many activities on offer. Sofie also loved the sushi-making class.
The Tin Box Kids Club is open from 9am-5pm, providing a perfect escape from the heat or rain. Loads of toys are also available for use throughout the day. For younger ones aged 4 and under, a guardian is required for activities, but babysitting services can be arranged in advance. Kids aged 5 and up can be unaccompanied at the playroom and for the organised kids activities. The playroom had soft playmats, so the twins were also happy.
While the kids were busy, we enjoyed some adult time, We participated in a Muay Thai boxing class at the air-conditioned gym, which was a fun way to stay active. There are also options for private classes and non-motorized water sports available on the beach.
The family weekly activity schedule is just as busy as the kids program. Join in on all the activities on offer or try a treatment at Coqoon Spa for some adult pampering downtime.
The dining experience at The Slate was fantastic! Breakfast at the Tin Mine offered a wide array of choices at the buffet, and Sofie loved sampling the sweet Thai desserts, like sticky rice with custard. The chefs also prepared healthy pureed meals for our twins, taking away the hassle of packing baby food. You can choose the ingredient combination including proteins, fruits and vegetables so picky eaters have lots of options.
For dinner, we enjoyed a magical evening at Black Ginger, where we were transported across the lagoon via barge to a stunning traditional Thai mansion.
The Black Ginger Experience set menu crafted by Executive Sous Chef Anongrat Meklai was a culinary Thai delight, and the ambiance was perfect for a date night. Families are also well catered for with high chairs and children's menu. Chef was kind enough to spend time with us to explain how she made the most delicious chilli salt. This made for an even more memorable experience.
Traveling with children can be both exciting and challenging, but The Slate Phuket made it easy for us. Its proximity to the airport was a huge plus, and Phuket itself is rich in culture and activities. The resort also helped us book tours, ensuring we made the most of our stay.
Plus, the two adults-only pools allowed for some much-needed kid-free relaxation time. Our first family vacation as a family of five at The Slate Phuket was a wonderful experience filled with fun, relaxation, and great memories. We can’t wait to return!
