One of the highlights of Shazeen's trip was visiting the Shibuya Sky Observatory Deck. Pre-booking tickets on Klook is a must, as it guarantees access to one of the best panoramic views of Tokyo. Located in the Shibuya Scramble Building, the observatory offers breathtaking 360-degree views, and if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji! Shazeen spent about 2.5 hours there, enjoying the view, browsing the gift shop, and sipping coffee at the café.
Shazeen's insider tip: For the best experience, aim to visit just before sunset when the city lights begin to twinkle.
For those who love art and interactive experiences, TeamLab Planet is a must-visit. This immersive art museum features stunning digital installations that encourage sensory engagement. You are barefoot throughout the exhibit, which adds to the experience! Highlights included the infinite Crystal Universe, the Waterfall of Light Particles, and the Floating Flower Garden.
Shazeen's insider tip: Remember to avoid short skirts or dresses, as some floors have mirrors. Arriving right when the museum opens at 10am will help you beat the crowds.
No trip to Tokyo would be complete without a day trip to Mount Fuji. Shazeen pre-booked a tour that took them to Lake Kawaguchi, where they enjoyed stunning views of the iconic volcano. Shazeen's son, a big fan of matcha, loved the matcha experience workshop included in the tour. They even ventured up to Mount Fuji's 5th station, where they indulged in delicious udon noodles and had the option of pony rides for kids!
For animal lovers, visiting a capybara café is a delightful experience and you can book your experience in advance online. While it’s not a traditional café, the chance to pet and feed these gentle creatures is unforgettable!
Shazeen's insider tip: If your kids are fascinated by animals, consider also exploring owl and cat cafés around Tokyo.
If your teens are into anime, vintage finds, and cute souvenirs, Takeshita Street in Harajuku is a paradise! This vibrant street is filled with trendy boutiques offering stylish streetwear and unique accessories. Anime fans will love the shops dedicated to their favorite series, featuring everything from action figures to themed apparel. Don’t miss the popular crepe shops, serving delicious treats that are perfect for Instagram. The lively atmosphere and eclectic mix of shops make Takeshita Street a must-visit destination for families looking to experience Japan’s youth culture.
Shazeen's insider tip: Don’t miss Magnet by Shibuya 109, where you can shop for trendy streetwear and collectibles. Plus, enjoy the view of the famous Shibuya Crossing from a rooftop café—perfect for a photo op!
Shazeen recommends visiting Asakusa as essential for exploring the iconic Senso-ji Temple. The bustling streets around the temple are lined with shops offering delicious Japanese treats like matcha drinks and soft serve. It’s conveniently close to Asakusa, making it an easy addition to your itinerary
Shazeen's Insider Tip: Aim to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds. Afterward, head to Tokyo Skytree for more shopping and stunning city views.
Don’t forget to take some time to unwind at Ueno Park or Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
Both parks provide a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle, making them ideal for a family picnic. Ueno Park features spacious lawns, a zoo, and various museums, while Shinjuku Gyoen is renowned for its stunning landscapes and seasonal flowers. Pack a picnic basket filled with your favorite snacks, and enjoy quality time surrounded by nature. These parks offer a perfect opportunity for relaxation and bonding while appreciating Japan’s natural beauty.
Shazeen's Insider Tip: Ueno Park even has a zoo, while Shinjuku Gyoen features a lovely Starbucks café overlooking the pond—an ideal spot, especially during cherry blossom season.
