Visiting The Mutianyu Section Of The Great Wall of China

Brickyard Mutianyu

Great Wall Mutianyu Section With Kids

Visiting The Great Wall of China is on everyone’s bucket list, so why not now, why not with kids? Let’s go! One hour northeast of Beijing is the Mutianyu section of the wall. It’s older, more rugged, and less crowded than Badaling, and thanks to lush eco-retreat Brickyard, you can visit comfortably and with kids in tow. A trip you’ll never forget!

The highlights:

*GOOD EATS: Grab a table by the window for a perfect breakfast spread of locally grown and homemade yummies, with lots of kid-friendly items. Meals at The Schoolhouse Canteen (same owners) are also delicious, and practically everything here is made from scratch and in small batches, including the ice cream!

*FUN RIDES: Mutianyu is the perfect section of the wall to take kids, because of the fun ways to get up there! You can take an exhilarating cable car ride up to the wall and when you’re ready to go back to the hotel, you can choose either a chairlift or toboggan. The giant slide may be more memorable for the kids than the wall itself!

*THE WALL: Take your time on the wall! Walk, take pics, buy souveniers for the kids, even picnic! Brickyard’s recommended walk takes about 2 hours and is mostly downhill, so even young children can participate. For babies and toddlers, we recommend a backpack.

*RELAX TIME: Brickyard’s fireplaced gathering room is a great place to chat with travelers from all over the world. Or relax in your room with a private terrace and story-and-a-half windows with views of the wall. After a long day on the wall, rejuvenate with some yoga or a private spa treatment.

Brickyard always has something to keep you and the kids busy! There’s also glass-blowing at The Schoolhouse’s glass studio or getting up close with local village life in Beijou. It’s an inspiring family trip!
