The next season runs Friday, September 18, 2026-Friday, April 30, 2027.
What is the Tora Coastal Walk actually like?
The route covers 42km over three days through hill-country farms, native bush, river valleys, ridgelines and the rugged Tora coast. Day one is the toughest, with steady climbs, so the team recommends good fitness and some hill training. Day two follows the coastline, and the final day takes around five hours.
Is the food on the Tora Coastal Walk really that good?
Yes, and it was the biggest surprise of our trip. Everything is made with fresh local ingredients, and each dinner felt designed for where we were sleeping that night. Nobody went hungry. Save room for the lemon tart. It’s the one everyone talks about. Flag any allergies when you book.
Should I stay in Martinborough before the walk?
Yes, add a night in Martinborough first. It’s about 35 minutes from the trailhead. We flew into Wellington, drove over the Remutaka Hill and had lunch at a local vineyard: fresh, local produce, rolling views and very fair prices. Tora offers a Martinborough Hotel add-on from NZ$165 per night.
Can families do the Tora Coastal Walk with kids?
