In just five years, North London Collegiate School (Singapore) has become one of the city’s most ambitious international schools, combining academic rigour with a nurturing and joyful environment. Rooted in 175 years of NLCS heritage, the school offers a seamless journey from 3-18 years where children are encouraged to be authentic, resilient, and ambitious.
At the heart of this journey lies the Junior School, where the youngest members of the community take their first steps into a world of discovery. This year marks an exciting new chapter, as the Junior School welcomes a new Principal, Louise McCabe-Arnold, to guide its next stage of growth. With more than 20 years of leadership experience, she is known for her warm, collaborative approach.
With her guidance, the Junior School is poised to continue flourishing as a place where every child thrives –intellectually, socially, and emotionally – and where each one is prepared for a seamless journey into the Senior School and beyond.
The Junior School is designed to foster a lifelong love of learning. Classrooms are dynamic, lively spaces where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore deeply, and think independently. Teachers blend academic challenge with joy, ensuring that lessons are not only rigorous but also engaging and immersive.
As one parent, Mrs Morjaria, reflects: “What I love about NLCS Singapore is the vibrant community and the incredible teachers. My children are thriving here. Every topic they learn here is very immersive and makes for a very enriching learning experience. The teachers really know how to make learning fun for the children as well as challenging them intellectually.”
The learning experience extends far beyond the walls of the classroom. The Junior School offers a rich co-curricular programme that encourages every child to discover new passions and develop hidden talents. From music, art, and drama to coding, chess, and sports, students are given countless opportunities to build skills, confidence, and friendships.
Highlights of the year include whole-school events such as the Arts Festival, where students perform on stage, exhibit their work, and celebrate creativity. Community celebrations, such as the International Food Festival and Christmas, bring families together and create lasting memories. Outdoor learning and residential trips also form an integral part of school life, encouraging resilience, independence, and teamwork.
The Junior School is defined not only by its academic ambition but also by its warm and supportive community. Pastoral care plays a central role, woven into daily routines through assemblies, house activities, and peer-support systems. Children are encouraged to show kindness, empathy, and respect, building strong friendships and a deep sense of belonging.
Parents are valued as active partners in their child’s education, with regular opportunities to connect through workshops, events, and open dialogue with staff. This collaborative spirit is central to the school’s ethos and is one of the reasons families choose NLCS (Singapore) for their children’s education.
