From August 23 to September 7, the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct transforms into a vibrant celebration of art, play, and history with the Singapore Night Festival 2024. Organized by the National Heritage Board and sponsored by Samsung Singapore, this annual event promises three weekends filled with fun, nostalgia, and creativity. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect:
Wonder World: A Machine of Nostalgia
Local artist Sam Lo (a.k.a. SKLO) reimagines the magic of 1950s amusement parks, featuring rides, game stalls, and nostalgic trades. This ticketed event will transport visitors back in time with larger-than-life billboards and artworks inspired by Samsung’s Galaxy AI. Early bird tickets are available until August 17 for SG$20, and SG$25 from August 18 onwards.
Night Lights Installations
The BBB precinct will glow with ten site-specific installations inspired by play. Highlights include “The Happiest Days of Our Lives” by Rizman Putra at Stamford Arts Centre and “Delulu High” by Pop Glitterfreak Collective at Bugis Street Art Lane. Visitors can also explore “Fortune Beads” by Thai artist KIMBAB:) at Funan Mall, an interactive installation designed to engage audiences in a thrilling race against time.
Festival Villages
This year, there will be four distinct Festival Villages, each offering unique experiences. The debut of Twilight Playground @ GR.iD features an interactive playground with an escape room experience and beer garden. Returning favorites include SMU Arts Fest 2024: Play at SMU Campus Green, Festival Village @ Chijmes, and Pixel Paradise at Armenian Street.
Projection Mapping and Partner Programs
The Peranakan Museum will showcase “Between Threads,” a projection mapping work celebrating the intricate artistry of Peranakan communities. Chijmes will feature four projection works from the SNF Projection Masterclass. Additionally, mini-festivals and partner programs, such as xinyao singalongs at Bras Basah Complex and getai shows at Waterloo Street, offer something for everyone.
Singapore Night Festival 2024 runs from August 23 to September 7 at the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct. The festival is free, with selected ticketed programs available for purchase. For the full list of programs and ticket information, visit the official SNF website.
