Clinical Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise suitable for everyone – and Prohealth Physio Focus is just the place to try it!
Why not book an assessment now and try it out for yourself?
How is Clinical Pilates different to Traditional Pilates?
Like traditional Pilates, it focuses on strengthening the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine, neck and shoulders as well as the joints in the lower limbs. What makes Clinical Pilates different is the comprehensive assessment that is performed by a Clinical Pilates certified Physiotherapist to first understand your history, and to determine the appropriate approach to address your individual needs or injuries.
Who can do Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise suitable for all types of people of all ages. Some of those who benefit from Clinical Pilates include people suffering with chronic neck and/or back pain; hip, groin, knee, ankle or shoulder injuries; patients recovering from surgery or as a conservative management instead of/prior to potential surgery; pre- or post-natal women; athletes looking to improve their performance and prevent injuries and people wanting to complement their current gym/training program with a low-intensity form of exercise.
What are the benefits of Clinical Pilates?
As with any other form of exercise, Clinical Pilates can provide physical and mental benefits. It can improve strength, flexibility, balance, and stability and help decrease levels of stress and pain.
How long until I start seeing results?
During the first few weeks, you’ll start to notice a change in how you think about simple movements like sitting and walking up stairs: these all help develop effective communication between the brain and muscles. You might also start noticing that your pain is reducing or even gone. This is called neuromuscular adaptation. As the weeks and months go on, expect to see more muscle definition in your arms, legs, hips and stomach.
Ok, you’ve got me interested in Clinical Pilates. What happens now?
You need to first have an Initial Assessment with our physiotherapist. This will help ensure that your training is specific to you based on your level of exercise, injury and experience.
During sessions, you’ll have access to the Reformer, Wunda Chair, and trapeze table, core align and your program will include accessory tools such as the Magic Circle, foam rollers, Swiss balls and therabands.
