In this edition, we say hello to Jayne Nadarajoo, the Founding Director of White Lodge Asia and Melbourne Specialist International School.

  • ABOUT JAYNE:

    1. Do you have a nickname? No, well not one that has stuck.

    2. Where were you born and where did you grow up? I was born in Singapore and grew up here.

    3. Where do you live in the city and why do you love it there? I live in Bukit Timah and love the lush green areas around my neighborhood. Plus, we are close to the Singapore botanical gardens which are beautiful.

    4. What’s in your lunchbox? Walnuts, blueberries, apples for a morning snack. Brown rice, veg, and meat for lunch. I am vegetarian twice a week as part of my Hinduism practice.

  • JAYNE'S BACKGROUND:

    1. What or who inspired you to become the founder of White Lodge Asia? My desire to provide good preschool education for children motivated me to start my first preschool. I believe education is an entitlement and not a privilege. So, I was determined to provide my children with a memorable preschool experience and am most proud to share it with thousands of other children.

    2. Describe your schools in 5 words or less? A 6-year-old boy once told me that he loves White Lodge because ‘it's snuggly’. I set out to create a ‘home away from home’ for all our children so ‘ snuggly’ sounds good!

  • HER FAVORITE THINGS:

    1. What’s your favorite thing on your desk and why? Photograph of my family as they remind me every day of much I am loved!

    2. What were your favorite subjects at school? Literature and Home Economics.

    3. Why do you want to be the principal of this school? As a leader, I share my knowledge and experiences to empower my team members to be excellent educators who create memorable school experiences for children

  • HER ADVICE:

    1. What is the best way for parents to be involved in their children’s education? Parents should celebrate their children’s development as they have a lasting impact on their learning. Good to establish a positive home/school partnership with the teachers as they need to work collaboratively in helping the child attain personal and academic success. Parents can attend school events, volunteer as well as read all newsletters to stay current with the teaching and learning taking place at their child’s school.

    2. Any tips for parents when applying for schools? Understand your child and how they learn to support your selection. Each school has its own unique culture and curriculum. You need to choose an environment that will support your child’s learning and well being beyond the aesthetics that it offers.

    3. What’s the best advice a teacher of headmistress ever gave you? You can achieve anything in life with hard work and determination!
