Hari Merdeka is observed enthusiastically every August 31 with a massive celebration and parade known as the Merdeka Parade. The parade is the perfect time to witness the colors and celebration of Malaysia’s Independence Day. While the main parade is traditionally held at the Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur (occasionally in Putrajaya), you can also switch it up this year and celebrate Merdeka in Klang by joining the Klang Heritage Merdeka Walk starting from the Kota Bridge. Not only you will be celebrating Merdeka in a unique way, but also burn some calories!
Organized by Kelab Warisan Sungai Klang, the 4km walk will cover a total of 10 sites including the Klang Fire Station, Little India, and Istana Alam Shah all in the name of a clean river. Open to adults and kids, registrations fees are priced at RM30 for adults and RM20 for children aged 18 years and below. Participants will receive a t-shirt, medal, heritage passport, goodies bag, certificate, a small Malaysia flag, a love lock and a chance to enter the lucky draw with prizes worth up to RM15,000.
