Exciting news for animal lovers and families: Johor Zoo, Malaysia’s oldest zoo, is set to reopen its doors on 31 August after a major renovation! The grand reopening, which will be marked by a special ceremony officiated by Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim on 28 August, promises a fresh and upgraded experience for visitors.
Originally opened in 1928 by Sultan Sir Ibrahim Sultan Abu Bakar, Johor Zoo—formerly known as ‘Kebun Bintang’—has undergone its first significant upgrade in decades. The renovations include a new entrance, enhanced landscaping, improved walkways, a revamped souvenir center, a children’s playground, and expanded parking facilities. The zoo now houses over 275 animals, including tigers, elephants, camels, and a variety of reptiles.
To celebrate the reopening, the zoo is offering a fantastic promotion: free entry for all Malaysian children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities (OKU) from 31 August to 30 September, along with a 50% discount for Malaysian adults. After this promotional period, the regular ticket prices will be RM10 for Malaysian adults, RM5 for children aged 5 and up, and RM30 for foreigners. Children aged 5 and below and OKU card holders will continue to enjoy free entry.
