Celebrating Maths Week At North London Collegiate School (Singapore)

North London Collegiate School (Singapore) recently celebrated the joy of numbers with Maths Week – and everyone from kindergarten to senior students joined in the fun!

NLCS prides itself in producing scholars and critical thinkers, and Maths Week was the perfect event to showcase this. It was also an opportunity to raise the profile of Mathematics around the school and enable students to strive for excellence.

To make the event as purposeful as possible, each subject had strong links to Mathematical concepts over the week, and students were encouraged to demonstrate their mastery in a chosen area. Independence and ownership also drove the Maths focus, which enabled students to generate and commit to ideas on how to share their knowledge and understanding of Mathematical approaches and constructs. Across the grades, students thought of ingenious ways to impart their knowledge through board games, puzzles, instructional and educational videos, and ‘how-to’ guides with a focus on ‘Sharing Student Scholarship”. Classrooms were abuzz all week with purposeful and powerful activities.

The highlight of the week was the spectacular bake-off and fancy dress events which used their mathematical knowledge and skills, as students came dressed in patterns and numbers, inspiring lively discussions.
