The Singapore American School‘s (SAS) Early Learning Center is a hub of activity and learning for young children aged three to six. It follows a Reggio-inspired philosophy, which encourages children to become unique, capable, and curious learners through exploration, inquiry, and building relationships with their peers and teachers.
A day at the Early Learning Center begins with an indoor exploration session to get young bodies and minds ready for the day, followed by a connection time where students and staff greet each other and set goals for the day. From there, students engage in a variety of activities, including perceptual motor skills and Chinese language classes, as well as outdoor play and small group discussions. Teachers act as facilitators, guiding students to make their own decisions and become advocates for positive contributions to their community.
In addition to classroom teachers, the Early Learning Center has support from specialists in speech/language therapy, counseling, and psychology. These professionals provide targeted support for students who may have communication difficulties or other needs, as well as guidance lessons and individualized assessments to assist with academic and behavioral growth.
At the heart of the Early Learning Center is a focus on building relationships between students, teachers, and parents. There are ample opportunities for collaboration and communication, including weekly newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, and various events and activities. By creating a warm and supportive environment, the Early Learning Center at SAS is able to nurture the unique potential of every child.
At Singapore American School, students are encouraged to think outside the box rather than fitting a predetermined mold.

SAS recently unveiled a S$400 million campus upgrade project that reimagines the role of classrooms and buildings in the learning journey.
