Gateway Arts Festival In Singapore

Gateway Theatre is thrilled to announce their second anniversary! To celebrate this in style, they’ve lined up a series of entertaining performances and engaging programs for the family in the first ever Gateway Arts Festival!

The festival will fill Gateway Theatre with children’s programs over the month of July, with ShowsWorkshops, and a Carnival! Join in the festivities and be filled with the wonder of the arts!

Gateway Theatre celebrating their second anniversary in style, by throwing the first ever Gateway Arts Festival lined up a series of entertaining performances and engaging programs for the whole family!

  • CARNIVAL

  • SHOWS: The Magic Story Bag

    Woolie and Goolie appear with a Magic Bag of stories. When they reach into the bag and say the magic words “gedebak-gedebuk-tingtong” ordinary household items turn into extraordinary tools and puppets! Come hear their many stories.

    Date & Time: July 6 & 7 from 11am - 11.30

  • SHOWS: SmartyPants and the Swordfish

    Written by award-winning playwright Jean Tay, SmartyPants and the Swordfish revolves around Nadim, a young kampong boy who unexpectedly saves the kingdom from a violent swordfish attack.

    Date & Time: July 13, 14, 20 July from 3pm - 4pm

  • SHOWS: HeartStrings

    A quirky dance-theatre production about play and the importance of friendship. Combining music, physical theatre and lots of string, this endearing show revolves around three fun-loving characters who grapple with the ups and downs of being friends.

  • SHOWS: As You Like It

    One of Shakespeare’s most glorious and sunniest comedies, the play is about a youthful search for identity, love and happiness. Set in a time when Singapore is about to leave the Malayan Union, the play transforms the jungles of Malaysia into a magical wonderland where dappled sunlight and the music and sounds of nature refresh the spirit and make miracles possible.

  • SHOWS: The Drunken Butterfly

    Join X as she escapes from the hospital to do her one last spectacular show with her troupe. Expect a rollercoaster ride of emotions as X attempts to complete her mission encountering unexpected surprises, multiple failures, ridiculous dancing, and one giant party!

    Date & Time: July 27 & 28 at 3pm - July 26 - 28 at 8pm, show lasts 80min

  • WORKSHOPS: Animated Adventures

    A fun and immersive experience for children led through music and sensory play, which transports its participants into an entire make-believe world.

    Date & Time: July 13 & 14 from 2pm - 3pm

    Age: 3 - 6

  • WORKSHOPS: Out On Top Circus

    The ‘Out on Top Circus’ is a chance for children to come and enjoy all the fun of the circus. They will have the chance to play the role of every performer, as this interactive workshop draws from various strands of circus entertainment.

  • WORKSHOPS: Upcycling Puppet Making (suitable for children with special needs)

    Anything can be a puppet! Bring your own material to upcycle and we’ll show you how to turn it into a puppet and learn how to bring them to life and engage in a story with tips and tricks from the trainers.

    Date & Time: July 20 from 2pm - 4pm

    Location: Gateway Theatre Studio 1

    Price: SG$20 per parent-child pair

    Age: 5 – 6, suitable for participants with special needs up to age 10

  • WORKSHOPS: Storytelling with Puppets

    Learn how to manipulate a traditional hand puppet, and use it to tell stories!

    Date & Time: July 21 from 2pm - 3:30pm

    Location: Gateway Theatre Dance Studio

    Price: SG$20 per parent-child pair

    Age: 5 – 6, suitable for participants with special needs up to age 10
