As the majority of us move into our second summer of being stuck in the city due to neverending quarantine measures, new family-friendly excursions and activities are something to really look forward to. This summer, there’s a new beach on the block and that comes in the form of Tai Po’s Lung Mei Beach in the New Territories which opened in June.
The artificial gazetted beach stretches for 200 meters and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), offering changing rooms with showers, toilets, and lifeguard services. So far the beach doesn’t offer food and beverage options, so make sure to bring your own!
Beach services run from 9am to 6pm daily from April to October, and services will stretch from 8am to 7pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays during the peak summer months of June to August.
We love that such a large area of land was dedicated to something useful, outdoors, and free for the public to use.
Those who live in the New Territories or Hong Kong Islanders who are tired of Repulse Bay and looking for something new!
Aside from taxis or private vehicles, the easiest way to get to Lung Mei Beach is by public bus. From the Tai Po Market MTR Station, you can take the 75K, 275R (Sundays and public holidays only), or the 20C green minibus. Get off at Lo Tsz Tin stop and its then a short 2-minute walk to the beach. Cyclists are also welcomed with bicycle parking spaces available too.
