Hong Kong's New Year’s Eve 2025 Fireworks Cancelled: Countdown To Take Place At Chater Road

In light of the tragic and devastating fires in Tai Po, Hong Kong has made changes to its annual New Year’s Eve celebrations. The iconic Victoria Harbour fireworks display has been cancelled this year out of respect for those affected by the tragedy.

Instead, Hong Kong’s iconic New Year’s Eve countdown is getting a new home this year, with celebrations moving from Victoria Harbour to Chater Road in Central and will sit right alongside Hong Kong Winterfest in Central, which has already transformed Statue Square, Chater Road, and the surrounding area into a glowing Christmas town complete with light installations, festive decorations, and an immersive light show on nearby buildings.

The Chater Road New Year Countdown will bring even more excitement to this lively area with:

  • Free Live Performances: Featuring international stars Air Supply, local artists Jay Fung and Cloud Wan, a children’s choir, and the Hong Kong Police Band.
  • Immersive Light Shows: Eight iconic buildings in Central will display light projections, including a giant countdown clock and seasonal patterns.
  • A Themed Light Performance: Titled New Hope, New Beginnings
