Running from February 27 to March 30, 2026, the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) brings together over 1,100 international and local artists in 170 performances across 45 programmes, alongside 300+ outreach and education events, many of which are free! Here are the highlights:

Festival Highlights

  • Opening Performance: La Bella Otero by Ballet Nacional de España
    • A flamenco-infused drama celebrating Belle Époque dancer Carolina Otero.
    • When: February 27 to March 1, 2026
    • Where: Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre
  • Music Highlights:
    • Legendary conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner with the Constellation Choir & Orchestra performing Bach and Mozart (March 6-7).
    • Piano recitals by Van Cliburn winners Yunchan Lim and Hong Kong’s Aristo Sham.
  • Dance Highlights:
    • Ballet superstar Roberto Bolle in Caravaggio, a bold contemporary work.
    • Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s BREL: A moving duet set to Jacques Brel’s haunting music.
  • Tech-Infused Art: Jockey Club InnoArts Series: KAGAMI by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum
    • A mixed-reality performance honoring Sakamoto, blending VR and spatial audio.
    • When: February 27 to March 15, 2026
    • Where: The Box, Freespace
  • Theatre Highlights:
    • Meng Jinghui’s radical Waiting for Godot.
    • A bold Chinese adaptation of Lysistrata celebrating women’s resistance to war.
    • Belgian troupe Ontroerend Goed’s Handle with Care: An interactive, actor-less performance.
  • For Families:
    • One to One Hundred: A Brave Journey by Lin Hwai-min and FOCASA.
    • A whimsical mix of circus, dance, and storytelling for all ages.
  • Closing Performance: Dream in The Peony Pavilion by Suzhou Song and Dance Theatre
    • A stunning contemporary interpretation of Tang Xianzu’s classic.
