
The 7.8 magnitude earthquakes that struck Syria and Turkey in the early hours of Monday morning have had a devastating toll: tens of thousands of people have lost their lives, with the toll rising daily as hope to rescue them from under the rubble fades. Families have been torn apart, kids orphaned and many are injured. The earthquakes have also left many men, women and children completely homeless and destitute, facing very cold and harsh weather conditions. There are a number of ways you can help the relief effort of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes from Hong Kong.
The Turkish Consulate General in Hong Kong has organized donation collection points for in kind donations, that will be sent directly to Turkey via Turkish Airlines for free, for more information click here. They are looking mainly for winter clothing for adults and children, as well as shelter equipment such as mattresses, tents, diapers, blankets etc.
The Hong Kong Red Cross has launched their emergency fundraising appeal, and there are lots of ways to donate.
Save The Children Hong Kong has launched an emergency fund, donate online here.
The Hong Kong community has mobilized to organize events that will benefit the survivors and relief effort. Details will be updated here regularly.
There are a number of international NGOs and charities which are raising funds to help the relief effort in Syria and Turkey. Syria unfortunately has been largely cut off from aid due to the current regime's control over the country.
