If your teen is interested in law, refugee protection, or NGO management and looking for ways to build up their legal profile and experience over the Summer holidays, Justice Centre’s Young Advocates Summer Camp (YASC) is the perfect program!
There will be 3 x 3 week camp sessions on June 19 – July 7, July 10 – July 28 and July 31 – August 18. To apply, fill in the application form and send it off along with a CV here! Don’t forget to use promo code LAWSTEPS to get a HK$500 discount!
The YASC is one of very few legal training opportunities offered to high school students in Hong Kong where Young Advocates are trained by lawyers to provide support in real asylum cases, help conduct legal research and prepare submissions, and attend client interviews. This three-week program is a great way to add value to college applications and could be an advantage for those considering a career in law! Previous Young Advocates have been accepted into world-renowned universities studying subjects such as law, anthropology, politics, and international development.
The three-week Summer Camp is packed with site visits and external exposure, including international organizations and the legal sector in Hong Kong. Young Advocates receive one-on-one personal coaching and mentorship from highly-qualified international lawyers and gain practical experience in all areas of Justice Centre’s work, including the provision of legal, counseling and social welfare support to refugees and community empowerment initiatives.
One former Young Advocate says, “The Young Advocates Programme is a wonderfully immersive, fulfilling and enjoyable experience. The hands-on legal experience I was able to gain is unrivaled by any similar programs I’ve attended in the past. I also met some of the most ambitious and talented individuals in my fellow Young Advocates and the friendships and connections I’ve made during the program will definitely follow me as I prepare for higher education.”
What’s more, the Summer Camp enables those who are still deciding on potential study or career options to explore their interests.
Give your teen the chance to gain hands-on experience in law in a non-profit setting with the Justice Centre’s Summer Camps!
This social justice Summer Camp will provide training to an ambitious group of Young Advocates interested in exploring a career in law and refugee protection.
Teens aged 15-18 years.
All income from the Young Advocates Summer Camp contributes towards Justice Centre’s charitable work for the refugee community in Hong Kong.
