A Summer Of Authentic Chinese Opera

If you love trying new things and immersing yourself in Chinese culture, the Chinese Opera Festival is definitely somewhere you’ll be wanting to go this summer. This event will also be super entertaining for the kids!
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Xiqu Centre will be bringing the best of the regional Xiqu genres to perform. Here is a rundown of the attending opera companies and the dates on which they will present their programs:
* On June 13 to 15 and 17 to 19, the Peking Opera Masters North and South: China National Peking Opera Compan and Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company will be performing different pieces at the Grand Theatre.
* From July 4 to 7, the Guangdong Quadrangle will present their program titled Four Folk Music Types in Concert at the Tea House.
* July 19 to 21 will feature the Jiangsu Kunqu Opera Theatre performing a series of performances by an award-winning cast at the Grand Theatre.
* The Jingkun Theatre and Shandong Peking Opera Theatre will present The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums and Orchids – A Close Encounter of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera from Aug 2 to 4 at the Tea House.
The shows will be performed in Chinese or Cantonese but English subtitles will be provided. Click here to find out more!
