Tucked away within the historic confines of The Repulse Bay, which once served as a grand hotel in the 1920s, Spices Restaurant stands as a testament to Hong Kong’s colonial heritage, offering families an exceptional dining experience. Spice has been a stalwart of Hong Kong’s dining scene and has certainly stood the test of time. With its beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the sea, guests are treated to breathtaking views that complement the rich, aromatic flavors served within.
The menu is a vibrant tapestry of Asian gastronomy, with standout dishes that pay homage to the continent’s wide-ranging culinary traditions, from Indian to Thai and beyond. The highlights include the succulent Thai green curry with barramundi, and the Indian lamb rogan josh, a robust dish simmered in a deep, aromatic sauce with a hint of yogurt to soften the spices. Not to be missed are the family favorites, prawn cakes, papaya salad, tom yum kung spicy prawn soup, kerie ayam (chicken and potato coconut curry), the chicken and salmon tikka, vegetable pad Thai, stir-fried morning glory, nasi goreng and many more succulent dishes. The spiciness levels of dishes can be adjusted according to preferences. For the kids, the varied menu includes favorites like chicken satay with peanut dipping sauce, fried rice with BBQ pork and vegetables, fish and chips, ham and cheese spring rolls, naan chicken pizza with tomato and cheese.
Their beautiful expansive terrace overlooking the sea is a perfect escape during the cooler months and is great for big gatherings and family meals. Their indoor restaurant with its rustic interiors and impossibly high ceilings exudes colonial charm and would be perfect for quiet date nights.
Combine your family meal with a leisurely walk to and from Deep Water Bay – it’s scooter and stroller-friendly too! The close proximity to Repulse Bay Beach, with its inviting playgrounds, offers additional enjoyment opportunities, so you can make a whole day out of it!
Spices is open for lunch and dinner and even has a dedicated snack menu perfect for leisurely weekday afternoons spent on the terrace with some cocktails.
Otherwise, The “Bayside Beats” music series takes place weekly from Wednesday to Friday, between 6:30 PM and 9:30 PM – perfect for a weekly date night idea. On Wednesdays, Oliver delivers smooth jazz tunes on the saxophone, Thursdays DJ Matthew spins soulful R&B tracks, and on Fridays, the “Spice Trio” brings you laid-back retro tunes. These accomplished artists boast performance histories at venues and events such as The Peninsula Hong Kong, Sevva, and the Clockenflap Music Festival.
Spices has been around for years and is still standing the test of time thanks to its delicious food and family-friendly feel. Their menu includes all our Asian favorites, all in one place!
