There’s a new art and culture destination in Hong Kong! The East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC) has opened its doors, bringing an innovative blend of technology and creativity to the city’s vibrant cultural scene. Managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the EKCC is a state-of-the-art performance hub designed to inspire collaboration between artists and technology experts while nurturing new talent for the future of Arts Tech.
The East Kowloon Cultural Centre is currently offering two free, non-ticketed events, which provide a wonderful opportunity to explore the new venue in an interactive and artistic way.
Bioluminescence transforms The Atrium into a poetic, three-dimensional garden through mesmerizing architectural projection mapping. Inspired by East Kowloon’s history and the vibrant colors of birds, this installation utilizes striking visuals and original music to celebrate resilience and community, inviting viewers to reflect on the light that each person brings to the world.
Passage of Abundance turns The Corner into a lush virtual oasis where visitors can interact with motion-detection technology to create dynamic, nature-inspired digital art in real time. Surrounded by evolving LED murals and music, participants are encouraged to pause, connect, and enjoy a mindful digital experience, making it an engaging and relaxing way to discover the innovative spirit of EKCC.
Discover the highlights of EKCC’s opening season, with international performances perfect for all ages—including a cutting-edge puppet show, a visually stunning solo dance saga by a British artist overcoming dyslexia, and much more. The lineup brings together engaging theatre, innovative film, and world-class music and dance, offering memorable experiences for families and arts lovers alike.
This original Cantonese musical, written by Erica Li with music direction by Johnny Yim, tells the inspiring story of Nobel physicist Charles Kao—the father of fiber optics—through 20 original pop songs and striking multimedia technology. The cast includes Jordan Cheng, Mischa Ip, Gigi Yim, Hedy Chan, and Brian Chow, focusing on Kao’s devotion to knowledge, family, and humanity. Performed in Cantonese with English subtitles, with dates available in November and December 2025. Suitable for ages six and above.
Lucie in the sky is an Asia premiere collaboration between Australasian Dance Collective and Verity Studios, this work features six dancers performing alongside choreographed drones, exploring human-machine relationships and emotions on stage. Suitable for ages six and above.

British choreographer Aakash Odedra’s “Little Murmur” is a visually immersive solo dance theatre piece inspired by his own experiences growing up with dyslexia. Created with Lewis Major, the show blends dance, humour, and advanced projections to reflect the challenges of living in a world that doesn’t cater to neurodiverse minds. Celebrated for its magical visual design and heartfelt storytelling, the performance invites audiences of all ages to witness a poignant journey of self-discovery and see movement and words soar as a murmuration—a “little murmur”. Suitable for kids aged 6 and above.

Canadian duo Video Phase present a fusion of digital technology, laser light, and live music. Their show, “Alt-Escape,” is packed with body movement, improvisation, and electrifying futuristic visuals—an inventive take on digital art performance.

Austrian keyboardist Gerard Peter, in his Hong Kong debut, joins drummer Aaron Thier to blend progressive rock, jazz, and electronic music, synchronised with original digital imagery for a truly immersive experience.

Winner of the Outstanding Touring Production at the 2023 Dora Awards, “The Storyville Mosquito” delivers an extraordinary live multimedia experience. This unique show features live puppetry, miniature sets, cinematic filming, and live music, all performed and captured in real time by a team of 14 performers, musicians, and technicians. Using 75 puppets, 20 detailed sets, 8 cameras, and an onstage screen, the performers create a visual spectacle as audiences follow a determined mosquito’s adventure to the big city in hopes of playing at a legendary music hall. The performance, shot in one seamless take, is accompanied by a vibrant original soundtrack with a string trio and Canadian DJ Kid Koala mixing live on turntables and keyboards. Every event offers audiences the rare opportunity to watch both the film unroll and the intricate production process unfold simultaneously, making each show truly one-of-a-kind.
