Car-Free Day Schedule In Jakarta

Rise and Shine, Jakarta, it’s time to  lace up those sneakers, strap on that helmet, and head down to Central Jakarta for car-free day!

Every Sunday from 6 AM to 11 AM you’ll find the city’s main thoroughfare packed not with bumper-to-bumper traffic, but with joggers, cyclists, food carts, and happy Jakartans revelling in the respite from the Jakarta’s ubiquitous traffic snarls.

Jalan Sudirman is closed to traffic from Senayan to Monas, allowing Jakartans several kilometres of blissfully car-free pavement to enjoy. Head down town with your bikes and let your little ones roam the streets. Slap on your running shoes and work up a sweat before the heat of the day sets in. Or, strap the kiddos into the stroller and take a leisurely walk in the city, a rare and peaceful treat!

If fresh air and healthy exercise is not your thing, come down for the people watching. You’ll see outlandish bicycles that defy the laws of physics; mimes dressed in crazy costumes; cool kids and trend-setters of all sorts; loveable and snuggle-able sugar gliders (possibly the world’s most adorable marsupial); police riding horses; and civets walking with their owners on leashes. Little Steps Jakarta has even spotted an otter in a sweater. And that, friends, is reason enough to wake up with the sun and head downtown.
