The National Museum of Singapore reopens its newly revamped Shaw Foundation Glass Rotunda on August 8, 2025 with Singapore Odyssea: A Journey Through Time, a breathtaking, multi-sensorial experience that charts 700 years of Singapore’s history. Presented as the museum’s SG60 gift to the nation, this immersive installation replaces the former Story of the Forest and takes visitors on a time-travelling maritime journey through key historical eras, from a futuristic Singapore skyline back to the shores of pre-colonial Singapura.
Blending art, history, and technology, visitors “set sail” on a digital voyage featuring LED light shows, animated wall projections, and interactive soundscapes. Highlights include:
Suspended LED globe mapping Singapore’s maritime connections
Four narrative episodes, from independence to ancient coastal communities
Interactive digital floor and waterfall curtain responding to your footsteps
RFID-enabled animal companions, like a pangolin or hornbill, guiding your journey and triggering hidden animations
The experience also shines a light on environmental awareness, connecting Singapore’s evolution with rising sea levels and climate resilience. Younger visitors will love adopting a magical companion and releasing it at the digital “well,” symbolizing the return of nature’s gifts.
Complementary highlights include the Once Upon A Tide maritime exhibition, Canvas of Light: Our Nation’s Journey evening projection show, and family-friendly National Day programs on August 9, 2025, including LEGO installations, live performances, and hands-on art activities.
Singapore Odyssea is FREE for Singaporeans and PRs and promises to be a must-visit SG60 experience that fuses heritage with cutting-edge interactive storytelling.
This is history reimagined! The immersive storytelling, interactive tech, and multi-sensory elements make heritage come alive for the whole family. It’s not just a museum visit—it’s a living, moving journey through Singapore’s past.
