Singapore’s Istana Open House is a rare opportunity to explore the official residence and office of the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and its beautifully landscaped grounds. Open to the public only a few times a year, visitors can enjoy guided tours showcasing the Istana’s Neo-Palladian architecture, elegant interiors, and 40 hectares of gardens, along with a glimpse into its fascinating history — from Charles Robert Prinsep’s nutmeg plantation to the home of British governors, and now Singapore’s presidential palace. Families can also enjoy festive performances, cultural displays, and interactive activities, making it a perfect outing for all ages. Located near Orchard Road, the Istana welcomes visitors with its grand gates and ceremonial guards, offering a truly memorable experience.
The Istana opens to the public several times a year around major public holidays:
Chinese New Year – February 2, 2025
Hari Raya Puasa – April 13, 2025
Labour Day – May (occasional)
National Day – August 3, 2025
Deepavali – November 9, 2025
Entry is free for Singaporeans and PRs, with guided tours, festive activities, and family-friendly attractions included. The Istana Open House is perfect for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and families looking for a unique and educational outing in the heart of Singapore.
Other visitors pay an admission fee of SG$20 per adult and SG$10 per child (4 to 12 years). Additional fees apply for other activities, such as the Istana Heritage Tour and visiting the Villa.
