As part of SG60 celebrations, the Children’s Museum Singapore (CMSG) is launching PLAY + MAKE, an interactive maker’s space that invites kids to explore Singapore’s rich food heritage through hands-on activities and sensory play. From now to 31 March 2026, the Discovery Room transforms into a vibrant hub of creativity, complementing the museum’s popular Into the Hawkerverse exhibition.
Children can assemble outfits on mannequins, design their own kamcheng, “cook” kueh for a tea party, explore tactile fabrics, and learn about materials like wood, metal, and rattan. The highlight is the Maker’s Cabinet, showcasing whimsical creations like a durian-inspired dress by Reckless Ericka, Hokkien Mee and Nasi Lemak shoes by Tuckshop, and a LEGO Tingkat by Artisan Bricks.
Jul–Sep 2025: Create paper dolls and explore fashion design
Oct–Dec 2025: Design crockery and express your creativity
Jan–Mar 2026: Try your hand at weaving patterns
Families can also look forward to drop-in storytelling and craft sessions, paid workshops, and exclusive excursions to local makers’ studios, like a snow-skin mooncake workshop by Tong Heng and a sauce discovery tour by Nanyang Sauce Academy. A parental guide co-created with BRB Kids helps parents and children bond through playful, meaningful engagement.
Beyond the museum, PLAY + MAKE Travelling Exhibitions and storytelling sessions will bring Singapore’s food heritage to libraries nationwide, inspiring young minds through culture and creativity.
