We came for the view, stayed for the Laksa, and left thinking about Cream Caramel.
This Merdeka and Malaysia Day season, we took a little culinary detour—30 floors up, into the heart of Sarawak, thanks to Le Méridien Petaling Jaya’s Serumpun Sarawak limited-time promotion at PJ’s Bar & Grill. With sweeping views of the city and a menu crafted by award-winning Chef Ramos Jalang Nyawai alongside Executive Chef Aris Fadilah, it was a dining experience that felt both rooted and refined.
Here are the dishes that stood out:
The Terong Asam Soup with Smoked Ikan Lumek (RM38) brought something unexpected to the table. Tangy, smoky, and layered with flavours we didn’t quite see coming, it was a bold combination that stood out. It's definitely not your everyday soup, and that’s exactly what made it memorable.
The Laksa Sarawak with Fresh Tiger Prawns (RM65) was easily the crowd favourite. Rich, aromatic, and full of depth, it had that unmistakable laksa fragrance that made heads turn as it arrived. Guests were quietly requesting for seconds and we may or may not have joined that queue. It was one of those dishes that made you wish you had more room, or maybe just a second stomach.
Then came the Pansuh Ayam (RM68), served in a bamboo stick—something we’d never had before. As it was opened, the aroma of herbs filled the air. The flavours were earthy, clean, and surprisingly layered. You could tell Chef Ramos was proud of this one, and rightly so. It felt like a dish with real roots, brought to the table with care.
The Cream Caramel with Gula Apong (RM25) was a standout. We’re not usually fans of cream caramel, but this one won us over completely! It was silky smooth, not overly sweet, and the gula apong—Sarawak’s signature palm sugar—added a smoky depth that made each spoonful better than the last. It's the kind of dessert that make you quietly plan a return visit.
While we focused on a few favourites, the full Sarawak menu offers plenty more to discover. From the refreshing Kerabu Midin (RM25) to the bold Wagyu Beef Tepus (RM128) and crispy Sarawak Terubuk (RM78), each dish brings a unique taste of Sarawak to the rooftop. Even the sides and desserts—like the Sambal Terung Asam (RM18) and Kek Lapis Sarawak (RM25)—carry the same thoughtful touch.
The setting—30 floors up, with Petaling Jaya laid out beneath you and adds to the experience without distracting from the food. It’s a rare balance to have a setting which is rooted in tradition but not stuck in it.
If you're planning a visit, the promotion runs until 16 September 2025 at PJ’s Bar & Grill, Level 30, Le Méridien Petaling Jaya. Reservations are recommended, and trust us, go hungry (and save space for dessert).
Reservations are highly recommended to ensure preferred seating.
