Where to take the SAT exam in singapore

When applying to colleges and universities worldwide, you most likely are going to need to take either an ACT or SAT test as part of the admissions application requirements. Preparing for these tests can be extremely daunting. As a parent, you may face the predicament of not knowing how to help your child with the process, or even understanding clearly what the tests are for.

With various expert ACT/SAT preparation service providers in Singapore and the huge amount of ACT/SAT prep materials available, your child can receive the support to get the best test scores they can. For parents looking to find out where to take the SAT or ACT in Singapore and the registration deadlines for the SAT and ACT, this guide is for you. We’ve put together this guide to the ACT and SAT in Singapore, hoping that it will shed some light on this sometimes confusing topic.

Most universities accept both SAT scores and ACT scores and there is no advantage to taking one over the other.  It is best to focus on which one is right for you.

The SAT is now offered 7 times a year in Singapore (instead of 5 previously) – March, May, June, August, October, November, and December.  Most students take it in Grade 11 or early Grade 12 and there is no limit to the number of times you want to take it. You’ll have one score for Math, on a 200-800 scale, and one score for Reading & Writing, also on a 200-800 scale.

News! As of 2023, the SAT will be delivered digitally for international students, while the paper-based SAT is still available to the U.S.A. Students until they make the official transition in 2024. Testing takes place at testing centers and parents/students can download the new APP.  In addition, the SAT is now shorter (2 hours and 14 minutes versus 3 hours) and is adaptive which means questions change based on responses.

What You Need To Know About ACT & SAT Preparation

    What is the ACT?

    • The American College Testing (ACT) is a standardized test often required for college/university admission worldwide, largely used in the US. The ACT is administered by ACT as a paper-based test in the US and a computer-based test internationally. It comprises 215 multiple-choice questions across 4 compulsory sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science, with an optional ACT Essay. The highest test score possible is 36.

    What is the SAT?

    • Similar to the ACT, the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a standardised test often required for college/university admission worldwide, mostly in the US. The SAT is currently a paper-based test administered by the College Board, offering a computer-based test by 2023.
    • It comprises 154 multiple-choice questions across 3 compulsory sections: Reading, Writing and Language, Math (with no calculator), and Math (with calculator). The SAT Essay choice is no longer offered to students. The test score range is between 400 and 1600.
    • Both tests give you a percentile ranking for your overall score. Your percentile rank tells you how you did, compared to other test-takers. These tests are important in offering institutions a fair and impartial way to compare students for admission.

How To Prepare For ACT/ SAT Exam In Singapore?

    • Students often ask, “What is the best way to prepare for the ACT/SAT?” It is recommended that students start preparing for the ACT/SAT at least 3 months prior to taking the respective tests. To help you along, here are some tips for your test preparation
      • Start off by taking a diagnostic test to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Candidates should take the test they would fare better in, increasing their chance of college/university admission. Many test preparation providers offer free diagnostic tests for both tests, together with a detailed score report. You also need to decide on your target score or determine what score is required for admission to your desired college or university.
      • Create an ACT/SAT preparation study plan for yourself, considering your schedule, preparation materials needed, time management, and analysis of where your strengths and weaknesses lie.
      • If feeling overwhelmed with the preparation process, you could enroll in test prep courses, or approach a reputable ACT/SAT test preparation provider/tutor to guide you. We've included some options below.
      • Get thorough knowledge of the ACT/SAT syllabus. Make use of the numerous study guides, and materials on the market. Be sure to get a copy of The Official ACT prep guide or the ACT and The Official SAT Study Guide.. Use ACT Academy for free online resource materials.
      • Familiarise yourself thoroughly with the format of the ACT/SAT test, including time allocation, tips for each subject area, and the most targeted concepts tested. Focus on your time management and do practice ACT/SAT tests online daily for different subject areas.
      • Make use of score calculators online to understand your performance level. Each section of the ACT/SAT contains different test instructions. Candidates can memorize those instructions before taking the tests to save time in the tests.
