The Chetti Melaka ( Chitty Melaka) are the successors of Tamil traders who settled down in Melaka after marrying local women of Malay and Chinese descent back in the 15th century. This community is diverse and unique in their culture, tradition and even languages spoken. The origins of Chettis were traced back in Kampung Chitty in Gajah Berang, Melaka while in Singapore it has been estimated to have close to 5000 Chettis. If you love some history, head on over to Indian Heritage Centre from September 7, 2018 through May 5, 2019 to discover the exhibition of the Chittis presented by The Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) in collaboration with the Association of Peranakan Indians (Chitty Melaka) which serves as the first of IHC’s community co-created exhibitions.
