When you start to see mooncakes and colorful lanterns showing up all over malls and markets, you'll know that the Mid Autumn Winter festival is almost here. This harvest festival is typically celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar by the Chinese community, which falls on September 13 this year. Family members will gather on this day to eat moon cakes, while kids will light up colorful lanterns as they celebrate family reunions and togetherness. Here we've listed a number of activities and events taking place around Kuala Lumpur just so you can be a part of this charming festive occasion.

Tea Party On The Moon @ SkyAvenue

WHAT: Genting Highland celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with an adventure to the moon! Characters from ancient Chinese tales will make an appearance in a series of parades, live performances and more, all the while keeping traditions alive with savory mooncakes by Resorts World Genting. Be sure to catch the MoonDance @ SkySymphony performance that runs every hour from 10:30am to 11:30pm, dance parade at 11am,1pm, 4pm and 7pm, as well as sale of mooncakes.

A Mid-Autumn Garden of Paradise @ Cheras Leisure Mall

 WHAT: Come check out the beautiful lanterns that fill the Cheras Leisure Mall with a beautiful Mid-Autumn vibe this month. On display till September 15, the mall's décor is inspired by the Jade Rabbit, an important folklore character of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The sight of hundreds of beautiful rabbit lanterns make the perfect Instagram opportunity, thanks to the recent lantern-making competition held at the mall. The mall is also currently running a number of creative art workshops on weekends, while mooncakes from various vendors as well as lanterns are available for sale at the LG concourse area.

Moonlight In The City @ Kwai Chai Hong

WHAT: The back lanes of KL's Chinatown have been given a face lift thanks to a restoration project which culminated in the Kwai Chai Hong heritage site. Perfect for Instagram fanatics, this is the hottest spot to capture awesome selfies and more with the many unique street murals, and sample the local fare or just stop at one of the cafes or bars for a quick drink. Mooncake Workshop @ Junior Explorers

WHAT: Young ones can learn how to make their very own mooncakes at Junior Explorers. Open to kids from 4 to 12 years, there will be two sessions where they can learn how to make traditional baked or snow skin mooncakes. Eco Creative Lantern Competition 2019

WHAT: Kids from ages 8 to 12 years are invited to participate in this lantern making competition using recycled materials with parental assistance. Lantern Festival @ Klang Hokkien Association

WHAT: In an effort to encourage unity among the various races in Malaysia, the Klang Hokkien Association is hosting a Lantern Festival which will feature a number of cultural performances such as the traditional Iban dance, a One Malaysia dance, the Malay Zapin dance, an Indian dance, 24 seasons drum, Tanglung dance, and over 1,300 lanterns and mooncakes to be given out ot the public.There will also be traditional games, moon-cake making workshop and lantern parade.

Mid-Autumn Festival @ Central Market Kuala Lumpur

WHAT: Experience a taste of Chinese culture at its best in this Mid-Autumn celebration happening at Central Market. From lantern procession to acrobatic show and lion dance, mooncake-making and lantern-making workshops, Chinese calligraphy sesssion, fire show and mini games booth, the place will come alive on September 21 for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The easiest way to get here it to hop on the LRT and get off at the Pasar Seni stop, then make your way to the outdoor stage of this hard to miss light blue building. Entrance to the event is free.
